About AP Psychology
According to the official course description provided by the College Board, “The AP Psychology course is designed to introduce students to the systematic and scientific study of behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Students are exposed to the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields within psychology. They also learn about the ethics and methods psychologists use in their science and practice. The aim of this course is to provide students with a learning experience equivalent to that obtained in most college introductory psychology courses.”
That’s the official language. What this means for you is that this is a challenging college- level course and will be taught accordingly. As your teacher, I am assuming that you already possess basic academic skills (reading, writing, note-taking, studying, class participation), and more importantly, that you are highly motivated and one who takes school seriously. I expect that AP Psychology students attend class, take notes, participate in discussion, study for tests, and complete homework. The ability and willingness to read and study regularly is essential for success in this class. There is not enough time to cover every term/concept/theory in class, so you will be responsible for learning some information independently. This class is for those who have an interest in psychology and want a taste of college-level course work. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE AN OUTSTANDING STUDENT TO SUCCEED IN THIS COURSE, BUT YOU DO NEED TO BE MOTIVED AND WILLING TO WORK. Your class grade will be determined by your performance on exams, assignments, projects, and analytic writing. |
